Edwin Stanton Moore, Sr. (1918-2015), 96, of Muskogee, OK, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, in Tulsa, OK. Ed, born August 26, 1918, was one of eleven sons of William N. and Leona Moore of Morris, OK, and grew up on the Half Moon Ranch south of Morris.

He attended Euchee Boarding School and graduated from Chilocco Indian Agriculture School in Chilocco, OK, in 1936. He earned both Bachelor (1941) and Master of Science (1952) degrees from Oklahoma State University.

Ed was an outstanding athlete while attending OSU and received numerous awards including All Missouri Valley Conference football team, conference leader in pass receiving, and Honorable Mention All-American. He was a life-long supporter of OSU and a decades-long football season ticket holder. He was also inducted into the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame 1991.

He began his nearly 38-year career in education with the Education Division of the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Chilocco in 1941. After holding positions in Arizona and South Dakota, he later returned to Sequoyah Indian School in Tahlequah, OK. He is fondly remembered and respected by numerous former students and employees for his years of service there as teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. He received the Meritorious Service Award from the Secretary of the Interior when he retired as the Assistant Area Director (Education) at the Muskogee Area Office in 1979.

Ed was a proud veteran of the United States military where he began his service with the Oklahoma National Guard in 1934. He served in the regular U.S. Army 1944-46 during which time he spent 15 months in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1946 to 1978 and was proud that he entered the Service as a private and retired as a Colonel. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Japanese Service Medal.

Ed is survived by: four children, Edwin S. Moore, Jr. and wife, Linda of Jenks, OK, Buddy Moore and wife, Berniece of Cushing, OK, David Moore, Sr. and wife, Jean of Broken Arrow, OK and Dr. Kelly R. Moore Wilson and husband, John of Albuquerque, NM; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and family. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Sallie Beaver Moore and all of his brothers.

Ed cherished his family and encouraged strong family bonds. He was a devout Christian, who loved and proudly served his country and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with be Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a wake service following at 6:00 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Muskogee, OK. His memorial service will take place on Monday, August 10, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Muskogee, OK. A family service will follow at Big Cussetah Indian Methodist Church in Morris after which he will be buried at the cemetery adjacent to the church. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to consider a contribution to Big Cussetah Indian Methodist Church.
