WILLIAM SHERMAN COLVIN

Mr. Colvin was born in Ellisburg, April 20,1811, and died September 24,1904. For several years he was engaged in boat building and carpentering. His father having died when he was 17, to him fell the care of his mother and a family of 11 other children.

In February 1834, he was married to Sarah H. Presley and to them was born nine children, of whom five are living, John of Ricard,N.Y.; Levi and Oren, of Pulaski; Henry M. and Harriet Dingman, of Altmar. He is also survived by one brother, Levi O. A. Colvin, of Payson City, Utah, who is now nearly 90 years of age and whom he had not seen in 51 years. Twenty five grandchildren and forty four great grandchildren, also survive their progenitor. The deceased lived in Ellisburg until about 1854, when he moved to the town of Orwell on the farm where he died. He gave one son, Francis, to his country and has drawn a dependent father's pension for several years. His wife was called to her reward January 19, 1892.

The deceased was a man of sterling principals and has for many years professed Christ, always studying the Word of God until his eyesight failed him and then often another to read it to him. He was a well read man and until a little than one year ago possessed a wonderful memory, often telling anecdotes of the last days of the war of 1812. For the last six years he has lived with his grandson, H. Warren Colvin.
