LA MARQUE - Ethel M. (Vincent) Ponder, 81, of La Marque, passed away Friday, May 4, 2001, at Columbia Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. She was born June 24, 1919,in Sulphur, La., and grew up in the surrounding area. She came to Galveston County in 1936 and lived in this area since that time. She was married to Bernard W. Ponder in 1940, and they made their home in Galveston until 1949, when they moved to La Marque where they have
lived until the present Ethel was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years and during the years has Attended church in both Galveston
and Texas City.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard W. Ponder; three sons, Marvin Ponder and wife, Shirley, of Loma Linda, California, Weldon Ponder of Austin, Texas, and Timothy Ponder and wife, Rebecca, of Bel Air, Maryland; one daughter, Patsy Ann McArthur presently of La Marque, lexas; ten grandchildren, Trevor McArthur, Jeff McArthur and Mary McArthur of California, Christopher Ponder of New Hampshire, Jonathan and Jennifer Ponder of California, Carrie Ponder of Ohio, Steven Ponder of Austin, Texas, and Rachel and Matthew Ponder of Maryland;
brother, Jerry H. Vincent and wife, Mernice, of Waller, Texas.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2001, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Rose officiating. Burial will follow services at Forest Park East in Webster, Texas.

Memorials may be made to The Seventh Day Adventist Church, 102 13 St. South, Texas City, TX 77590, or American Heart Association, P.O. Box 2956, Texas City, TX, 77592-2956.
