OTTUMWA – Bertha Mary Goodsell, 79, of 931 N. Elm St., died at 9 p.m. July 23, 1990, at her home.
She was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Ward to Gustave and Desse Mark [sic] DeBois. She married Irwin Goodsell in 1927, in Albia. He died Feb. 1, 1989.
She had lived for 24 years north of Batavia and 18 years in Fairfield before moving to Ottumwa in 1989. She was a cook in restaurants, nursing homes and hospitals and took care of the elderly.
She is survived by a son, Irwin Dean of Garden City, Mich.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Julia Fowles of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Gus; and two sisters, Louisa Colson and Celine Roberts.
The service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. Dean Grant of Hickory Grove Church of God in Stockport officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today at the funeral home.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Polson, James Hull Sr., James Hull Jr., Merle Bradshaw, Jerry Davis and Jerry Meiers.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wapello County.
