Tabitha SAVAGE is the daughter of Thomas SAVAGE II and his wife Elizabeth. Thomas SAVAGE II is the son of immigrant Thomas SAVAGE I of Lincolnshire England and his wife Catherine SCOTTEN of Queen Anne's County, Maryland. Catherine SCOTTEN is the older sister of John SCOTTEN who married Barbara Elizabeth KIVETT.

Tabitha SAVAGE was in three different relationships based on personal interviews with some of her descendants around 1971. Tabitha was apparently involved with multiple relationships over twenty years even after her marriages. Some of these relationships/marriages overlap in dates adding to the challenges for the resolution for an accurate documentation of these family groups.

1. Tabitha SAVAGE, age 21, first married on 29 January 1819 to Balaam ALDRIDGE, age 25 in Randolph County, North Carolina. Five children were born to this marriage:

1. Elizabeth Matilda "Betsy" ALDRIDGE, b. 1820 NC; d. 1866 TN
2. John "Jake" ALDRIDGE, b. 1822 NC; d. 1903 NC
3. Daughter #2 ALDRIDGE, b. 1823 NC; d, 1840 NC
4. William ALDRIDGE, b. 1825 NC; d. 1865 NC
5. Jesse Pleasant ALDRIDGE, b. 1834 NC; d. 1907 NC

2. The second relationship/marriage was described as an out of wedlock relationship with Alfred Isaac LANE in about December 1821. One daughter, Martha "Molsey" Lane was born in August 1822, Randolph County. The child was abandoned by Alfred Isaac LANE and left with Tabitha SAVAGE.

Alfred Isaac LANE was alleged to have another daughter out of wedlock, Lourenna "Lou" LANE born in 1824 with Rebecca KIRKMAN. It appears from the 1850 US Census of Randolph County that Lourenna LANE is listed as the wife of William ALDRIDGE with two children:

1. William W. ALDRIDGE, b. 1846, Randolph County, North Carolina
2. Lane ALDRIDGE, b. 1847, Randolph County, North Carolina

Lourenna LANE appears to have migrated into White County, Georgia, where she married James Madison ALLEN (# 147413732), on 24 Dec 1843?. They were the parents of seven children in Georgia.

3. Tabitha SAVAGE, age 25, married the third time in 1823 to Jabez YORK, age 29.

The five children of Tabitha SAVAGE and Jabez YORK are:

1. Alfred D YORK, b. 1823; d. 1865, VA, Civil War
2. John York, b. 1825; d. 1890
3. Mary Polly York, b. 1826, d. 1908
4. William Frank York, b. 1833; d. 1901
5. Sarah Ann York, b. 1840; d. 1901

Note:
It is believed that Jabez YORK and his wife Tabitha SAVAGE are buried at one of the rocks in Row 4/5 with no documented proof. Jabez YORK is the grandson of Semore YORK who is buried in Row 11/12 and the son of Jeremiah YORK IIIB, who is buried at one of the rocks in Row 4/5 as reported by Rogers HAYES and his parents of Durham, North Carolina as supported by the John HAYES Bible in his possession that list several of. these York's

After the death of Jabez YORK in 1849; the 1850 census has an interesting combination of several YORK individuals living with Tabitha SAVAGE YORK. The log cabins of Tabitha SAVAGE YORK and Peter RICARADSON were within walking distance or at least a short wagon or mule ride of each other. Therefore, Martha Molsey was visiting in different 1850 US Census records of Randolph County, but on different dates.
Tabitha must have had a very kind, caring and loving heart for those who abandoned, rejected and compromised them in life. Tabitha provided them clothes, food, a home and most of all love.

It has taken me many years with the mush help of the late Noda Mae YORK SEALS, Lonnie YORK and other York researchers to sort out all these folks. The Tabitha SAVAGE YORK, 1850 D/F 838 US Census of Randolph Country, North Carolina provides evidence of the safe haven provided for these seven displaced YORK members without a complete family with a father and mother:

1. (Martha) Molsey YORK, age 27…

This is the only known child of Tabitha SAVAGE YORKand her second relationship to Alfred Isaac LANE . Molsey was apparently raised as a YORK in the home of Jabez YORK and Tabitha SAVAGE; her third marriage.
Molsey YORK was actually Martha "Molsey" LANE: (YORK) , (b. 28 Aug 1822; d. 30 Dec 1882) who married Peter RICHARDSON in 05 Mar 1845. They had ten children.

2. Mary YORK, age 23…

This is actually Mary Lucy WRIGHT most likely the daughter of Jacob "Jake" WRIGHT Sr. and his first wife Rachel REED. Regrettably Rachel died at age twenty six, most likely at child birth with her third child in 1833. This left three very young children without a mother including six year old Mary Lucy WRIGHT. Jacob WRIGHT married a second time on 02 Sep 1835 to Barbary KIVETT of Liberty. They had five children. Perhaps Mary Lucy WRIGHT did not feel at ease with her new family. So just a few years later she had two children by William Yancy YORK . Those two children were John Wesley "Wes" YORK , #6, and Angeline YORK, #7 below.

3. Sarah YORK, age 12…

Sarah Ann YORK was the last born child of Jabez and Tabitha YORK. Young unmarried Sarah Ann had two children by a red headed neighbor William Cook "Red Hair" REECE . The children inherited dominate red hair. They were John D. "Red Belly" YORK and James Wesley YORK, #6, born in 1871. To her credit Sarah Ann raised her two sons as documented in the 1880 US Census of Randolph County. In 1884 her son John D YORK married Emiley "Emma" Caroline RICHARDSON, daughter of Peter RICHARDSON and his wife Martha "Molsey" LANE. By the 1900 Census as a grandmother, Sarah Ann is living next to her son John D. YORK enjoying her many grandchildren.

4. Mary YORK, age 5…
5. America "Merika" YORK, age 3…Nick name for America YORK.

According to the late Noda YORK SEAL and Lonnie YORK, young unmarried Mary "Polly" YORK had three children by William Yancy YORK; namely, Mary York, #4, America "Merika" YORK, #5, and James Tyrell YORK ,#9. Eventually Mary YORK married the farm laborer Stephen W IVEY, #8, who was working on her parent's farm.

6. Wesley YORK, age 1
7. Angeline YORK, age 4
8. Stephen W IVEY, age 24, Laborer on the farm.

By the 1860 US Census of Randolph County two more children were added to the household of Tabitha YORK:

9. Tyrell YORK, age 7, born 1853
10. John YORK, age 7 months, born 1869
