Drewery (or Drury) Stogdill was the son of Samuel and Martha (Elkins) Stogdill. He was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky where he married Martha Acton. They moved to Jackson County, Indiana. There they raised eight children (five boys, Samuel , Jesse , James, Thomas, William and Morris ; and three girls, Martha, Mary Polly and Anna ). Three of their sons served in the Union Army during the civil war. Two of them, Samuel and Jesse, died while serving . Many of the Stogdills migrated from Jackson County, Indiana to Davis County, Iowa in the late 1800's.
