Larry was born April 12, 1944 in Camptown, Pa., a son of the late F. Vernon and Ruth Sterling Allis. He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School a member of the class of 1962. He graduated from New York University with a degree in English in 1966. He then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was involved with surveying and engineering of the air strips and was honorably discharged in 1970. After honorably serving in the Air Force he attended Penn State Mont Alto campus and received a two-year degree in land surveying.
In 1972 he moved to the Virgin Islands and worked as a land surveyor for five years and then returned to Bradford County. In 1978 he began working as a laborer for GTE Osram Sylvania, now known as GTP in Towanda and became a self-taught chemist. He held a number of patents for Sylvania. In 2009 he retired as a supervisor.
Larry was a life member of the N.R.A. He was an accomplished musician, playing many instruments including the piano, and he could also play by ear. He also composed many tunes for his family.
Surviving is his son Clayton P. (Magdalene) Allis, New York, N.Y.; two daughters Julia P. Allis and Sarah S. Allis, both of Liverpool, N.Y.; sister Roberta (Paul) Lutz, Camptown, Pa.; sister-in-law Vera C. Allis, Camptown, Pa.; grandson Zeke W. Allis, New York, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Allis of Camptown, in 1988.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, Pa., with the Rev. Terry Van Horn, pastor of the New Albany Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Camptown Cemetery, Camptown, Pa.
