"The LaFayette Sun" - May 7, 1913:

In Memory of Grandmother.

Mrs. S. E. Etchinson, nee Oliver, was born in Elbert County, Ga., Nov. 12, 1834. She joined the Methodist Church in her early years. Was married to Chas. Sanford Etchinson, Oct. 1st, 1851, by her grandfather, Rev. McCarthy Oliver.

To this union was born ten children, four sons and six daughters. She is survived by six children, one son, Jno. Costly Etchinson, Arab, Ala., five daughters, Mrs. Ella Nunn, Arkadelphia, Ark., Mrs. Annie Nunn, Sims, Texas, Mrs. Sarah Johnson, Wellington, Ala., Mrs. Ida Andrews, LaFayette, Ala. (fifth daughter is not named). Her husband preceded her 8 years. Grandmother's death was due to a stroke of paralysis, which she sustained about 4:30 on Friday morning. Sunday morning when the end came without a struggle, she entered Heaven. She lived to the age of 78 years.

She lived a life of love for God and devoted to his cause. Grandmother was modest, kind and affectionate.

It is hard to think and realize that she can never be with us on earth again, but may her sweet spirit hover near us to help us push bravely on till the broken circle be reunited in a happy, bright home that's everlasting.

I know it was a happy meeting when she beheld her Savior and all that had gone before her, for she had said she wished she were there with them. But what an enemy is death. It has robbed her children of a mother. A place is vacant, which never can be filled, for God can give us but one mother. Grieve not dear ones, for she now is at rest in the realms above to forever enjoy the bliss of "Over There."

She loved her family well.

But loved her Savior more;

And now she's gone with Him to dwell

On Canaan's happy shore.

The family joins with me in thanking all the neighbors and friends for their kindness in this sad affliction.
