The death of Jacob Humphrey was at his home at Dayton Center last Friday. He had been sick for several weeks. He was first taken with pneumonia, which later developed into tuberculosis and nothing could be done to save his life. He leaves a wife and six children who have the sympathy of the community in the loss of a husband and father. Jacob Weltner Humphrey was born in Freeport, Illinois, August 27, 1858 and died at his home in Dayton twp February 9, 1912 at the age of 55 years 5 months and 11 days. He came to Iowa with his parents and located in Johnson county. He was married October 31, 1880, to Miranda Ellen Shubert. To this union were born eight children; John, Perry, Minnie, Stephan, Frederic, Mae, Walter and another female who died in infancy. Minnie and Frederic also died in infancy.The family united with the ME Church at Hope Chapel where he was a member at the time of his death. He was very patient in all his suffering and showing his strong Christian fortitude he was ever thoughtful of thos around him and appreciated every little act and kind deed done for him. He was a gentleman, devoted father and husband, a kind neighbor and friend to everyone. His life was full of kind doings for others, never thoughtful of his own condition, but ever trying to do as his master would do. Services were held in Keswick.
