He married Gladys Bulson, of Oklahoma, in 1923 and they made their home in Palmyra, Marion, Missouri where their three children were born and reared.
After a lengthy married life, they parted ways officially in 1967 in California. Howard remarried in 1972 to Beachy Wood Joaquin, but the marriage was short lived, ending in divorce the following year.
Howard died on the 24th day of January, 1981 in San Bernardino County, California at the age of 78.
