Clara Adeline "Addie" Clark was the daughter of William Riley Clark and his wife, Margaret Adeline Griffith. She was born in Johnsonville, Indian Prairie Township, Wayne County, Illinois, with a twin brother Robert Paris Clark, on 17 June 1878. Clara's date of birth was generally given in the year 1880 in most records. Clara married Hiram "Alvin" Richards of Lamard Township, Wayne County, Illinois on 30 October 1899 in Carmi, White County, Illinois. They were the parents of 8 children: Violet May Richards who married William Harshbarger, but preceded her mother in death; Jesse Robert Richards who married Vynnie Lee Thomas and later Marie G. Rodenberry; James Clark Alvin Richards who married Elizabeth Dorothy Noerenberg; Alberta Flo Richards who married Sam Clark; and 4 children who died young - Edith Gertrude, Beaulah Mary, Minnie Ethel, and E. Riley.

In 1916, the family left farming in Wayne County and moved to Rossville. There, her husband worked as a fireman for the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad for over 33 years. It was during this time that Addie, his wife of 36 years died, on 8 April 1936.

Clara had been a member of the Rossville Church of Christ, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was survived by two sisters, Miss Tillie Clark of Fairfield, Illinois and Mrs. Kate (Arthur) Miller of Burbank, California; twin brother Robert Clark of Decatur and brother Ira Clark of Missouri; daughter Alberta Flo Clark; sons Jesse Robert and James Clark Alvin Richards; and 6 grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, 5 children, and 5 brothers and sisters.
