Mr. Augur was born in Mount Auburn on February 2, 1854, a son of Andrew and Emily Augur. He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Elliott who survives. He was engaged in farming there until about fifteen years ago, when he erected a beautiful home in Mt. Auburn and retired.
He was an ardent Christian and a large donator to charity and all religious works. He paid one-half the cost of the $50,000 Cristian church erected in Mt. Auburn a few years ago. Mr. Augur was a sociable and kind friends to the poor and never let a person in need pass his attention without giving in money or goods. He helped students through college and helped people build homes and repay him as they could. At his death he owned several hundred acres of rich farm land and at one time was one of Christian county's wealthiest men but had given to his children and largely of it to charitable and religious works.
He was a member of the Kedron lodge, No. 240 A. F. & A. M. of Mt. Auburn.
He leaves, besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Nellie E. Parish and two sons, Charles A. and Jesse A. Augur, all of Mt. Auburn; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Butcher of Mt. Auburn and Mrs. Amanda Hill of Blue Mound; a brother, Calvin L. Augur preceded him in death about two months ago.
Funeral services: Saturday afternoon at the Christian church of Mt. Auburn.
Burial: Mount Auburn Cemetery.
