James retired as a mechanic in the landscaping business. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army.
James is survived by his wife, Martha Lou Boyd Carpenter; sons, James Lee Carpenter, Jr. and wife Molly, Neil Carpenter and wife Jennifer, Eric Carpenter and wife Bonnie; brothers, Joe Carpenter and wife Gloria, Dan Carpenter and wife Betty; sister, Sue Curtis and husband Charles, and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia, Thursday, July 23, 2015. Service and interment will be private for family with Mr. Tim Kitts officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
