Born February 23, 1844, in the Nealsville Community, near Marion and Glenwood, McDowell County, N.C., Alfred Burton Mashburn was the son of Drury Mashburn and Tempy Morgan Mashburn, as thier first born child. He would be later joined by five other siblings.

* A. B. Mashburn enlisted in the Civil War in 1861, at the age of only 17. Apparently, he served in the war to in the year 1864, when he mustered out.
* Alfred Burton Mashburn married Lucinda (Sidney?) Hensley Mashburn.
* It appears as of the death dates, at least three of the children of Alfred B. Mashburn and "Cinda" Mashburn may have died from disease, all dying in 1881.
* As a minister, Rev. A. B. Mashburn officiated at a funeral in 1892, as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, according to an obituary notice.
*On March 30, 1925, Marion, N.C., McDowell County, N.C., Rev. Alfred Burton Mashburn, a widower, died at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 6 days.

Lucinda "Cinda" Hensley Mashburn, still married, died in Glenwood, McDowell Co., N.C., on December 28, 1920, at the age of 77.
