Cerena was the daughter of Lucy Hail and John Tate; she was married to Peter Lewis. Records also give her name as Arena, Cyrenia, Cyrenie, Cyrena, Cirenia, Cerene, and Serena. Most records that give a middle initial give "L" as hers; however, the headstone has E, which is used here. Her headstone has her date of death as 12 Jul 1903.

From Kentucky, County Marriage Records, 1783-1965:
"I certify that I celebrated the rites of matrimony between Peter Lewis and Cyrena L Tate on 11th day of February 1857 at the residence of Lewis Tate in the presents [presence] of Claybourn Sloan & Stephen Tate of Pulaski Co. M. Silvers, M. G. [Martin Silvers, Minister of the Gospel]
