Roger D. Adkison, 59, of Brookfield, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at his Winter Haven, FL home.
He was born in Tampa, FL. Jan 25, 1955, son of the late Billie Joe and Barbara Brady Hutchinson Adkison. Following high school, at the age of 17, Roger started his military career of 21 years in the Army. He joined as a private and rose through the ranks to retire as a Chief Warrant Officer III. Roger was an Army Aviator Blackhawk helicopter pilot. His military career ended in 1994, and Roger moved back to his family's hometown at Brookfield. At the age of 39, he went back to college and eventually was employed at DFAS in Rome, starting his second government career. He worked at DFAS as an accountant for 10 years. While at DFAS, Roger served as Union Steward and vice president of the local chapter of the American Society at Military Comptrollers. Roger retired from DFAS due to acute kidney failure.In 2008, he was a recipient of a donated kidney, which also later failed, causing Roger to spend years in dialysis. He was a member of the Johnson-Rogers Post 1492 of Brookfield. At the time of Roger's mother's passing in 1999, he became a caregiver to his sister Cherie Hutchinson, who resides with Roger and Evelyn. Roger's passion was his grandchildren, children and fishing. At the time of his passing, Roger had been fishing in Florida daily.
Roger leaves his wife of 41 years, Evelyn Putnam Adkison, a daughter, Kimberly Adkison Shipman, and her husband, Master Sergeant Carl Shipman, and their twin daughters, Cassy Marie and Katelynn Elizabeth Shipman, all of Peyton, CO, as Carl is stationed in Ft. Carson, CO; a daughter Sarah Adkison Snyder, and her husband Brandon Snyder, and their two daughters, Lilly Ann and Abigail Lynn Snyder, of Brookfield, a daughter Amanda Juhaz and husband Nicholas of Eden; a sister, Cherie Hutchinson of Brookfield; brothers, Steve Adkison, James and Doug Hutchinson; three sisters, Brenda Hackenwerth, Shannon Davis and Marsha Mansfield; his in-laws, Steve, Jerry, Alan and Ada Putnam Burnett and his mother-in-law, Helene Putnam, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother. Funeral services with Military Honors will be Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield, with the Rev. Mark Thall, pastor of the Brookfield First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Brookfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours prior to the service.
