Maude Chafin, 90, of Newtown, died Saturday at 11:30 p.m. in the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1896 in Meador, a daughter of the late Harrison and Nancy Hatfield Varney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Chafin and a son. She was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church at Newtown.
She is survived by two sons, Tom Chafin, Jr. of Detroit, Mich. and Paul Chafin of Newtown; seven daughters, Virginia Chafin and Ester Harmon, both of Newtown, Okie Lecco of Red Jacket, Inez Lecco of Copperston, Georgia Harmon of Earleton, Fla., Doris Stafford of South Williamson, Ky. and Sue Rawoew of Monterey Park, Calif.; a sister, Okie Carey of Matewan; 36 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in theFree Pentecostal Church at Newtown with Dallas Rife and Randy Case officiating. Burial will follow in the Chafin Cemetery at Newtown.
Visitation will be in the church anytime after 2 p.m. today. A special prayer services will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan.
