Gefreiter, Luftwaffe. He was fatally injured a lorry, carrying German prisoners of war from No 250 POW Camp (Eden Camp, Old Malton, Malton) to the station at Burton Agnes, was hit by a train after it crashed through a gate and ended up on the Hull to Scarborough line. Although Soldat Hans-Ulrich Graf had been the designated driver and was in the driving cab with Sergeant Roland Montague Cramer, an enquiry found that the crash was due to the careless handling of the lorry by the interpreter Staff Sergeant James Joseph Wadey, an unauthorised and inexperienced driver, who was driving the lorry on this trip. Gefreiter Albert Gronen died later in Lloyd Hospital, Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire. Altogether, 10 German prisoners and 2 British non-commissioned officers died as a result of the crash.

All those who died are also commemorated on a Memorial at the Eden Camp Museum, Malton Ryedale, North Yorkshire.

Born in Eschweiler. Originally buried in Section W Grave 221 at Bridlington Cemetery, Yorkshire.
