Life Legacy

Albert Gary, Sr. age 82, of Columbia, ended his journey on July 15, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 12:00 PM at New Life Church with Pastor Darryl Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will also be held at New Life Church, one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Albert Gary began his life journey on May 7, 1933. He was born to the proud parents Herbert Sr. and Rosie Coffer Gary in Greenwood, Mississippi. He was the youngest of six brothers and seven sisters all who preceded him in death, except one sister, Louise Williams of Harvey, IL. On April 21, 1956, He joined in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Thomasina Holliman Gary, to this union, five children were born: three daughters and two sons.

Albert was employed by the Chicago Housing Authority where he was supervisor for over twenty-five employees and 1,700 units of apartments. He was a valued employee for twenty-seven years.

Albert accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. After moving to Chicago, IL, he became a member of Living Word Christian Center, where William “Bill” Winston was pastor. He was a faithful member until he relocated to Columbia, TN on September 21, 2001. He united with New Life Church where Darryl Martin is pastor. He served as a deacon over baptism as well as ministry to the sick, until his health failed. Albert also enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, and traveling to visit relatives. He was also good friends with Lou Brock and played Minor League Baseball with him and well known as being an avid Cubs fan.

Albert leaves to forever carry in their hearts the love, wisdom, and inspiration he has provided, his loving wife Thomasina, his “babe;” daughters: Sharon Elaine Battle of Chicago, IL, Patricia Lynn Smith of Chicago, IL, Brenda King of Chicago, IL, Sybil Kay Gary of Columbia; sons: Albert, Jr. (Dawn) Gary of Bolingbrook, IL, Alfred (Connie) Gary of Darien, IL, Alan Jeffrey (Teresa) Gary of Columbia; one special sister: Louise Williams of Harvey, IL; brother-in-laws: Paul (Delores) Long of University Park, IL, Ron Brody of Chicago, IL, Owen Brody of Evanston, IL; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends also survive.
