Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at her home. Age 90 years. The daughter of the late George and Frances (Doerr) Welzel, Rita was born July 31, 1920 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married James A. Baird, her loving husband of 62 years, on February 12, 1949. He survives her. Rita was employed at the Saginaw Police Department for 10 years until her retirement in 1949. She was a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Surviving besides her husband Jim are one son and three daughters, James A. Baird IV and his wife Connie, Hemlock; Nancy A. Baird, Saginaw; Susan M. Zak, Thomas Township; Sharon E. Dickinson and her husband Keith, Plano, Texas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas Zak, and by her brothers and two sisters. Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Emmett Marceau will officiate. Private interment will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Helen Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Helen Catholic Church, Heartland Hospice or the charity of their choice.
