Elderly Windom Resident dies at Home Saturday

Windom, Sept. 5

Mrs. Lougena E. Barker, who would have been 94 years old on Oct 19, died at her home here shortly after 7 o'clock Saturday morning.

Mrs. Barker had been in ill health for the past several years. She had been confined to her bed most of the time.

Mrs. Barker was born Oct. 14, 1859 in Cass county, Georgia, and was married to M. L. Barker in 1882. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. They moved to Texas in 1894, settling on a farm in the Honey Grove community Sept. 19, 1894. They moved to their present home in Windom in 1942.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Barker leaves 66 direct descendants, including 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Immediate survivors are her husband, M. L. Barker, Windom; four sons, J. M. Barker, Lannius; H. C. Barker, Gober; F. E. Barker, Lone Elm, F. L. Barker, Greenville, and one daughter, Mrs. Viola Barnes, Ector.

Funeral services have been announced for 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham with Elder J. E. Luttrell officiating. Interment will be in the Dodd City cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
