Catherine Eagan Ormsby and her husband Thomas lived in Allamakee Co. Iowa after relocating from Ohio. She died in 1856 and was buried in Cherry Mound Cemetery, Harpers Ferry, Iowa. According to the 1860 Census, her husband Thomas moved the family to Giard, Clayton Co., Iowa after her death and is reported as a widower through the 1880 Federal Census. He died in 1887 and was buried with his wife in Cherry Mound Cemetery. Thomas' sister Ellen Ormsby Kinney was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dougherty, Iowa and it is believed that the headstone inscription with Catherine Ormbsy's name was only a memorial to Catherine.
