Funeral services for Alex Keels were held Thursday, April 20, 2000, at St. John 4-B Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Brockington. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Keels, 79, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born August 3, 1921, in Salters, a son of the late York Keels and Lillie Keels. He was employed as a construction worker. He was a member of St. John 4-B Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. He was also a member of Pine Grove Masonic Lodge and Hampton Lodge. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Maggie Keels of Greeleyville; two sons, Willie Edward Keels of Greeleyville; and Leon Keels of Joppa, MD; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Williams, Mrs. LeeVone Shaw and Mrs. Lula Moyd, all of Greeleyville; and Mrs. Brenda Mack of Manning; three brothers, York Keels and Jody Keels, both of Troy, NY; and Lee Eston Keels of San Diego, CA; and two sisters, Mrs. Earther Lee York of Kingstree; and Mrs. Mary Emma Lee of White Plaines, NY.
