Early settlers of Steuben County
Mrs. Sophia Teeters
was born February 27, 1806, at Fishing Creek, Pennsylvania. She moved with her parents to Luzerne County and subsequently to Columbiana County, Ohio. She was then 19. At the age of twenty, she was led to the alter and there made the wife of W. Teeters ,and here with little of this world's goods, and a farm of seventy acres, commenced business for themselves. They remained there ten years and then moved to Sandusky County, where they lived twenty years. From there , the family came to Steuben County. Grandma Teeters is the mother of ten children, eight of them living, five sons;Wilson, D.B., A.J. and Elisha are citizens of Steuben County. John Teeters lives in Menoma County, Iowa. Of the daughters, two, Peter Buck's wife and Mrs. Chandler ate residents of Steuben County, the other, Mary, is the wife of Representative Stiles of Stearns County, Minnesota. On April 19,1864, death visited her family circle, taking from her embrace, the one she most loved. She is yet able to knit and do most all kinds of work. She is a boss hand to take care of the little Teeterses.
