Robert Buren Wilkie, age 89, of Alamo, GA, passed away at Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA, on April 27, 2022, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Wilkie, daughter, Renee (John) Garrett; granddaughters, MacKinley (Landon) Powell and Madison Garrett; sister, Linda Andrews; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde and Oler Leigh Bruce Wilkie, and sisters: Dorothy Frady, Katherine Mills, Shirley Bielicki, and LaNell Lewis.

He was born on August 27, 1932, in Freehome, GA. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Wilkie and his wife returned to Korea along with President Jimmy Carter and several others on the 50th anniversary of the end of the war to serve with Habitat for Humanity. That was an experience he was forever grateful for. He retired from Sears and Roebuck, where he met his beloved wife, and he was a longtime member of the Alamo First Baptist Church. Mr. Wilkie was an avid Braves baseball fan, loved to hunt, fish, and play golf, but his favorite pastime was watching his granddaughters play softball.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA for their dedicated service and sincere compassion.

Visitation will be Friday, April 29, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Towns Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Alamo City Cemetery.
