Mary was off to heaven within hours of her birth. She was the last of 13 children born to Jonathan Ray and Sarah Ellen Merryman. Three siblings passed before her. Included among her surviving siblings were: Elisha Wesley Ray, Sarah Jane Ray, Zachariah M. Ray, Henry M. Ray, George Washington Ray, Amy M. Ray, Deborah E. Ray, and Levi W. Ray.
