Bertha Emma Stephens Wineman, 93, of 108 Fifth St. NW, died Sunday at her residence.

Born Feb. 29, 1896 in Catawba County, she was a daughter of Richard F. and Elizabeth Jane Johnson Stephens.

She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her first husband, Ted L. Whitener, her second husband, Sam Wineman, and a son. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, John L. Whitener of Hickory, Joe T. Whitener of Newton and William F. Whitener of Texas City, Texas; a sister, Rae Hollar of Spencer; two half sisters; a half brother, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will be at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
