John L. "Jack" Endris, 77, of 2104 Denson Avenue, Bedford, died at 5:52 p.m. Wednesday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Born August 16, 1927, in Bedford, he was the son of Otto and Marie (Gates) Endris. He married Patricia Lewis on August 19, 1950, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford and she survives.

He was a graduate of Bedford High School and attended Indiana Business College.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, and he was past commander and lifetime member of American Legion, Gillen Post No. 33, of Bedford; lifetime member of Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1166, both of Bedford.

He was a salesman for various companies, including Lawrence County Beverage Co., Best Beers Inc., and Streitman Biscuit Co. He also built and operated the former St. Cinn Motel with his father-in-law, Stanley Lewis. The motel was located on Highway 50 West. He was also a professional baseball player, playing in a minor league team with the Pittsburgh Pirates system and also with the Bedford AC's.
