John R Taylor b. April 25, 1925 in Bonesteel, SD. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Rapid City, SD and the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City as a Civil Engineer and worked for the State of California in the Bridge Department. He served 2 years in the US Army in World War II. John R Taylor has one daughter Suzanne Taylor (Ogg) and three step daughters: Donna Harmon Montelbetti, Trinity Village, California, Dorothy Harmon Larion of Eugene, Oregon and Winona Harmon Hegar, Portland, Oregon, his wife's children from a previous marriage.

TAYLOR, John Raymond, Age 89, died in Sacramento, California on Sept. 18, 2014. Born April 2, 1925 In Bonesteel, SD. The family moved to Rapid City in 1930 following the failure of the Bonesteel Bank where his father was employed as vice president. John R served in US Army during WW II, graduated from SD School of Mines with a BS in Civil Engineering. After 32 years of service, retired from CA State Bridge Dept., during which he 'fathered" a good portion of the innovative earthquake retrofit details that we use today. Resided in Sacramento for over 54 years. A devout parish member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church since its establishment, fundraising committee member within the Sacramento Diocese and member of Knights of Columbus. Devoted husband of Velma Taylor, whom he now joins in Heaven. Loving father of Suzanne Ogg and son-in-law Gary Ogg of El Dorado Hills. Cherished brother to Leota Lee of Livermore. Adored grandfather of 2 granddaughters, Shannon Armstrong of Elk Grove and Brenna Ogg of San Diego. Papa great to Shannon's 3 children. Friends are invited to attend a Vigil at 4pm, Rosary at 6:30pm, Sept. 28 at the Chapel of Harry A. Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd. and Funeral Mass at 12pm, followed by Military Honors, Sept. 29 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7584 Center Pkwv. John requested donations be made to Realm of Caring (CA), www.theroc.us, for the benefit of his great-granddaughter Hannah.
