Janetta "Nettie" Waddell Smith was the daughter of Francis H. Smith, Jr. (VMI grad and math prof) and Janetta Waddell. She was the granddaughter of Dr. Livingston Waddell and Hannah Winters Estill.
On the 1900 Lexington, Virginia census, I found teacher Francis H Smith, 51, Mar 1849, married 24 years to wife Gennetta W Smith, 55, Aug 1844, she had 6 kids, 5 living: Anna T Smith, 22, Sep 1877; Lucy Preston Smith, 21, Apr 1874; Edmonia Smith, 19, Feb 1881 and GEMMETTA W Smith, 18, Oct 1886, all Virginia born.
On the 1910 Lexington, Virginia census, I found military school professor, Francis H Smith, 61; plus daughters Anna T, 32; Lucy P, 30; Edmonia L, 29; JANETTE W, 23 and sister Sallie E Smith, 57, all Virginia born (Ancestry lists their surname incorrectly, as Suiter).
The dates were taken from the W&L survey of this cemetery, though are hard to read on her marker.
