After returning to, Lexington Miss Edmonia opened a private school which she continued until her retirement in 1954. In her early life she united with the Lexington Presbyterian Church where she was active in the young people's work, Sundayschool and missionary societies. While in Staunton she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was also active. Miss Smith is survived by one sister, Miss Nettie Waddell Smith of Lexington, who is a former custodian of the VMI Museum. Her brother, Dr. Livingston Smith, deceased, was professor of mathematics at Washington and Lee until his retirement. Graveside services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Douglas Chase, on Monday afternoon in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Ceipetery." Published in the Lexington Gazette (Virginia), Vol 161, #5, dated 31 Jan 1962 (see photo).
