Cornelius McAvoy was born in County Cavan, Ireland in 1820. He came to the US and met Judith/Julia Bonfield and they married in Cincinnati on June 12, 1849 at St. Xavier Church.
Their 1st daughter Bridget, was born in 1851 Ohio, and the next, Margarett was born in KY about 1854. They had eight daughters before their son Thomas was born in 1865.
His obituary appeared in The Bracken Record, Jan. 3, 1877:
Death, at all times a terrible messenger, has again visited our community. On last Wednesday the 27th inst, [Dec 1876] Cornelius McAvoy, passed away. His death, although not altogether unexpected, has left a void in his family and in this community. He was laid to rest on Friday in the Catholic Cemetery at Augusta.
