PASSED AWAY.
Little Myrtle Whitmer died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Whitmer, Friday, May 3, 1907, at 8:30 P M., aged 6 years 1 month and 27 days. She had been sick for two weeks and for the last few days was considered in a serious condition.
Little Myrtle was an interesting child, neither forward nor afraid, she was a general favorite with the guests of the Whitmer house.* Many of those who come and go regularly will miss her cheerful prattle.
The funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church by Rev. N. C. B. Smith assisted by Rev. J. K. Morgan, and the little body taken to the Longton Cemetery and laid to rest.
During the services and funeral ceremonies a rain was falling as though the heavens wept in sympathy and sorrow that this sweet bud was plucked just as it was showing what the beauties of the fuller bloom might be.

* Myrtle's parents operated The Whitmer House, a hotel in Longton.

OBITUARIES
Died, May 3, 1907, Myrtle Whitmer, aged 6 years, 1 month and 27 days. Little Myrtle was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Whitmer of this city. She had been sick for about two weeks with spinal fever and all that mortal hands and human skill could do was done to relieve her sufferings which she bore with meekness and patience until death relieved her. She was the sunshine of the home and a favorite with all who knew her.
The funeral was preached at the Congregational church on Monday by Rev. N. C. B. Smith assissted [sic] by Rev. J. K. Morgan, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Longton cemetery while her sweet little spirit returned to the God who gave it. The parents and family have the sympathy of the town.
A luscious bud from earth's been plucked,
And carried home to Heaven;
God's celestial garden to adorn
There shalt bloom forever.
May we all live so here on earth
That when our time has come,
That we, too, shall have a place
In that celestial dome.
