He worked for Mack Truck for 40 ½ years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, where in earlier years he served as an elder and a Boy Scout leader. He was a life member of the NRA and the Macungie VFW, and a member of the North American Fishing Club. He honorably served his country in the Army during WWII. Arthur was a in the 817th Military Police Company 19th Corps. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe.

Kern and wife Sandy of Allentown, Susan wife of Terry Weikel of Downingtown, Barbara wife of Jim Valentine of Sardinia, OH, and Arthur W. Kern, Jr. and wife Deborah of Wescosville; Brothers, John Kern of Allentown, George Kern of Silverdale, and Robert Kern of East Greenville; 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Pearl; Granddaughters, Jennifer, and Kimberly; Great Granddaughter Rachel Rose; brothers, David James, and Frederick Kern.
Services: Funeral Services Monday, June 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main Street, Emmaus. Viewing 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Western Salisbury Cemetery.
