In this position Joe traveled to other countries to assist laboratories in complying with United States laws dealing with the proper laboratory practices necessary for them to sell their medicines in this country. He was an organizing member and past president of the Society of Quality Assurance for the United States which is now an international society. During this time he was also very active in the community- serving as President of the Montgomery Township Board of Education, charter member of the Montgomery Township Methodist Church, head of the building committee of same plus many jobs within the Church. He was also Vice President and Budget Chairman of the Greater Princeton United Way and served as umpire for the local Little League games.

Joe retired in 1992 and moved to Salt Lake City to consult with UBTL, a laboratory there. In 1997 he finally got back to his beloved Montana when he bought his home on Springhill Community Road in Belgrade where he has spent the remainder of his days working his gardens.
