His body lies in a distant state
It isn't possible for him to be the Solomon who was s/o Rev. David Reese III & Susan Polk for David died in 1787 in Charlotte, NC. The trees I have for my sources list him as s/o John Bascom Reese I & Mary Johnston. The Solomon T. Reese who was s/o David Reese III & Susan Polk was born 1757 in Mecklenburg Co., NC and not the date this one was born. Only reason I know is because I am David Reeese III & Susan Polk's 6th great-granddaughter through their son James Polk Reese. I know the stone says it but the dates make it impossible and someone evidently made a mistake.
In searching for information on my lost relative, Henchy B. Sheriff of Lumpkin County, I came across an entry for S. Rees in a book by M. Littleton. He recorded graves that he saw on the California trail in the summer of 1850. S. Rees' burial site is on the trail in Converse County, near Glenrock, WY. My great, great grandfather Sheriff, also from Lumpkin County, GA, may have been in the same wagon train. Solomon Rees mentions in a letter to his brother that there were 12 men, and that's the number of travelers that began in my relative's train. Only 6 made it to California, cholera took the other half.
