He was born in Shacklewell and baptized 16 June 1806, the son of Thomas Doggett and his second wife Hannah Griffin. He was my 1st cousin 4 x removed on my mother's side.

James married Eleanor Woodhead 1808 - 1883, daughter of Joseph Woodhead and Amy Pringle, on 21 August 1833 at St George in the East. They had four children: Eliza b. 1834 married James Horobin, Thomas 1836 - 1875, Eleanor 1839 - 1909 married John Page Ward and Emily 1848 - 1896 married James Dunning Tucker.

Probate of James Doggett's Will was granted on 21 January 1871 in the following terms:
"The Will of James Doggett late of Shacklewell Green Hackney in the County of Middlesex Cowkeeper who died 2 January 1871 at Shacklewell Green was proved at the Principal Registry by Frederick William Doggett of 15 Dalston Rise Hackney Hop Merchant John Low the Younger of Banbury Terrace Bombay Road South Hackney in the said County Cattle Salesman and Eleanor Doggett of Shacklewell Green Widow the Relict the Executors"

His effects were valued at under £800 or about £363,000 at 2002 prices. His estate was left to his wife Eleanor then his children Eliza wife of James Horobin, Thomas Doggett, Eleanor wife of John Page Ward and Emily Doggett.
