Toddsville ~ Mrs. Eve Shaul, whose demise occurred last Friday, Feb. 14, at her daughter's, Mrs. Martin Stickles, has resided here for the last 21 years. She was the oldest person we believe residing in this town, (Hartwick) her age being 95 years. Her parents Jacob and Elizabeth Crim at the massacre of Andrustown succeeded in making their escape to Herkimer, and from thence to Greenbush. From there they came to Warren, Herkimer county, where the subject of this sketch was born Dec. 6, 1794. Her grandfather, Paul Crim, in 1753, purchased one thousand acres of land, which is now known as Henderson, town of Warren. The house owned and occupied for several generations by Mrs. Shaul's ancestors, is full of historical events, both during the revolution and since. Mrs. Shaul early attached herself to the Dutch Reform church of Henderson, and since her residence here, has been a willing subject to her Redeemer. Her tender, loving kindness to her associates will remain in memory for a generation. Although old in years, she was always young in everything that apportioned to the comfort and pleasure of others. Although Grandma Shaul's chair by the fireside is empty, her sweet mellow voice can never be heard, her christian examples will still exert an influence that will be long remembered. She was granted a widow's pension by the government a few years since, which has been unsparingly used by the daughter, with whom she lived, for her comfort and deeds. Her funeral was held at the Union church last Monday at 1 0'cloeck p.m. Rev. Hiller, of Hartwick Sem. officiating. Moather and grandmother we know thou art in Paradise clothed in the whitest of christian robes."
