News Item in the Weekly Times (Melbourne) of Oct. 9, 1946: NED KELLY'S BROTHER NEARING 90. ADDITIONAL details of the Kelly Gang's, exploits, of great interest to historians, may be lost for ever now that Jim Kelly, Ned's only surviving brother, is losing his memory. Jim Kelly lives a few miles out of Glenrowan, the town in which Ned shot it out with the police and was captured. Jim is an old man now, nearing 90. He lives the life of a recluse at the farm of a nephew, and the Kelly family have for years shielded him from visitors, many of them historians seeking previously untold details of the days when the gang rode. This week a relative said: "Many lies have been written about Ned Kelly. It is no good going back into the past and asking the old man for his memories.

Death Notice in the Benalla Ensign of Dec. 20, 1946: MR JAMES KELLY. The death occurred at his home at Greta West on Monday last, of Mr James Kelly at the age of 88 years. Deceased was a very old and respected resident of the district, where he had resided for many years. Interment took place at the Greta Cemetery where a Iarge number of friends paid their last respects. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Todd and O'Brien, of Benalla.

Jim Kelly, brother of Ned the bushranger, died in his sleep last week near Glenrowan, where Ned shot it out with the police and was captured. Jim was over 90. Jim was the youngest member of the Kelly family, and was not involved in the bushranging life of his brothers, but years ago his memories of the period were eagerly sought by historians and other writers. He was unmarried and lived the life of a recluse with his nephew, Mr Patrick Griffiths, on a farm between Glenrowan and Greta West.
