Elmo Leroy Barton, 90, formerly of Arkansas City, KS passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Plano Regional Medical Center in Plano, TX. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery.

Elmo was born August 9, 1924, to William and Edith Barton in Winfield, Kansas.

He married Helen Sanberry on July 16, 1949.

Elmo served in the United States Navy from July 1943 until February 1946 (WW2)
and then returned to the USN during the Korean conflict.

With the exception of a six-year period from 1956 to 1961 in which Elmo worked as a secretary for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Enginemen in Cleveland, Ohio, Elmo worked for the Santa Fe Railway as an Engineer his entire career his entire career.

Elmo is survived by his son, Keith; his daughter-in-law, Margaret Barton of Plano, Texas; grandson Zachary and grand-daughter Kim, of Jacksonville, Florida and Plano, Texas respectively; as well as two great grandsons and two great granddaughters; brother-in-law, Doug Brown and his wife, Vickie. Also, A niece, Ashley K Richards; and two nephews, Douglas Brown and Greg Fitzgerald, first cousins Margie Smith, Jean McConnell, Marvin Rouch and Phyllis Griffith; also first cousin, Jim McFarland. Also surviving, first cousin Loretto McFarland and first cousin, Dorothy Kivett. Also surviving Elmo are niece Charlene Edmonson and nephew, Fred Case.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Edith Barton, his wife, Helen Louise Sanberry Barton, his sister-in- law Ruth Fitzgerald, and his sister and her husband, Maxine and Melvin Case, originally from Arkansas City, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Pastor Wayne Robbins via Arkansas City Church of Christ. These donations will be used for scholarships for their youth to attend Flint Hills Christian Camp of Sedan, Kansas. Donations may also be brought to the service at Rindt-Erdman.
