John E. Petrey, 81, of Lair Street in Somerset died Friday, Nov. 17, at the Lake Cumberland Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Laurel County on April 22, 1897, he was the son of the former Percy Lawson and C.S. Petrey, both of whom preceded him in death.

He married the former Cynthia Smiley on March 27, 1917, in Pulaski County, and she survives.

Other survivors include three children, Clarence M. Petrey, Mary G. Dyer, and Dicy Jewell Bullock, all of Cincinnati; seven brothers, Elbert Petrey, Woodstock, Ky., Edward Petrey, Henry Petrey, Clinton Petrey, and Virgil Petrey, all of Lansing, Tenn., Frank Petrey, Cincinnati, and David Petrey, Crawfordsville, Ind.; two sisters, Alice Poynter, Bradenton Beach, Fla. and Anna Jones, Otterheim, Ky.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

One son, Fred C. Petrey, preceded him in death.

Petrey came to Pulaski County from Laurel County as a child. He was a farmer and a member and deacon of the Eden Baptist Church.
