'Samuel Briggs Aug 26, 1813 - May 30, 1895' is an entry that appears in the book 'Cemetery records of Brown County, Illinois', which is available on FamilySearch.

This book is a collection of transcriptions that took place in the late 1950s, early 1960s. Briggs Cemetery was recorded in November of 1959 and appears on page 128-129 of Volume 3, or image 802-803 of 1113.

The dates on this entry in the book are suspiciously close to the birth and death dates of Rebecca Briggs whose gravestone says, in large lettering, wife of Samuel Briggs.

Could it be that, in 1959, Rebecca's gravestone was illegible or obstructed & all anyone could see was 'Samuel Briggs Aug 26, 1813 - May 30, 1895'? They couldn't see that it actually said
Rebecca
wife of
Samuel Briggs
Aug 26, 1813
May 30, 1895

According to the person who walked the cemetery in 1959, "The Briggs Cemetery was in about as sad a state as any recorded in the county. It was well fenced and stock had not run in it, at least not recently. There were trees, underbrush, tall grass, and deep ground hog holes that made recording a real task."
