ANSFIELD: To know Lee Beer was to know how the Spirit of the Living God can encounter a man, and transform him into a new creation. At the age of 50, Lee accepted Christ at the city-wide Billy Graham Crusade featuring Ralph Bell. He knew God…but now relied on Him daily for decisions and was bold in proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Faithful to His servant Lee, God called him home Monday evening May 11, 2015. He was 71.

Born December 02, 1943 in Mansfield to Louie and Marabell (Dillion) Beer, Lee was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1961. He went right to work at P.P.G., a firm he served 44 years and also served with the Army National Guard.

Lee was a member of Berean Baptist Church and Lee didn’t just talk-the-talk: he walked-the-walk!

Lee poured himself into prison ministry. Assigned as a Chaplain for Morrow County Jail in addition to serving at MANCI and RICI, Lee relentlessly pursued others for Christ.“Keep the main thing, the main thing.” was his Christ-focused response as he ministered to others.

Lee will be remembered as a man who loved his wife and children, lived out an active Christian faith and finished well!

Surviving, and blessed with a legacy of love, are his wife Elsa (Gottschling) Beer, whom he married October 4, 1964; their children Lee Scott Beer and Rick & Kami Beer all of Columbus and Holly & Eric Hammond of Lexington; grandchildren Kyle and Tyler Beer, Suzanna, Jacob, Lucas, Grace, Emma, Nathaniel, Amelia, Lilly, Noah, Micah, Zach and Violet Hammond; sister Marlene Manley of Columbus; sister-in-law Barb Beer of Mansfield along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Beer.

The Beer family will receive friends Friday, May 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A worship service, giving Glory to God for the life and ministry of Lee Beer will be held Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. in Berean Baptist Church, 2145 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield, with Pastors Bill Heaton and Dave Pound officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
