Obituary - George Endly Brewer

The older residents of Lisbon will remember George Endly Brewer, whose death occurred on Thursday (May 18, 1911) at his home at Longmeadow, Mass. Death was due to apoplexy and came suddenly. Deceased was a son of Judge Anson L. and Sarah Endly Brewer, former well known residents of this city, and was born here Oct, 18, 1840 and spent his early life here. Mr. Brewer came form a patriotic family, his father, two brothers and himself participating in the civil war. His father was major paymaster of the Cumberland and was killed by an explosion of the boiler on the steamer W. R. Carter on the Mississippi river while on duty. His brother, Robert was also killed in the same explosion and the body was never recovered. Another brother, Captain Charles Brewer, was killed in battle. All except the one son and brother lie buried in the Lisbon cemetery. Deceased was a brother of Lieutenant Colonel Edwin P. Brewer, of the 7th United States Cavalry, who sailed for the Phillippines on May 7.
