Williams Forrest Barnes, Jr., 79, died Saturday, May 14, in an Augusta hospital after an extended illness.

The son of the late William Forrest Barnes, Sr. and the late Mae Croft Barnes, Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Pearl Jones Barnes; two daughters, Charlotte Victoria Barnes and Ann Brunson Barnes Wilson; a son-in-law, Harry O'Bannon Wilson, Jr. and two granddaughters, Victoria Elizabeth Wilson and Ann Forrest Wilson. Mr. Barnes was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Lorraine Barnes and a sister, Elizabeth Mae Barnes Reuis.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Barnes served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Fleet. A retired farmer and nurseryman, Mr. Barnes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfax.

Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be held on Tuesday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Fairfax. Interment will follow at the Fairfax Cemetery.
