Hoyt Elliott Braden was born on September 23, 1891 in Lynnville, Gilles County, Tennessee, the son of John Turner Braden (1860–1948) and Julia Ann (Davis) Braden (1863–1960).

He was married 1st on October 18, 1914 in Giles County to Florence Gordon (ca 1897- ), and he was listed as a waiter on his June 1917 World War I Draft Registration Card. He was also a US army veteran who served during World War I. Hoyt was married 2nd on April 27, 1963 in Robertson County to Theodore Cinthie "Theo" Ross (1898–1973). {It is noted however, that - for whatever the reason - Hoyt and Theo were listed as married to one another and living in Nashville in the 1940 census.}

Much of the above is from his Death Certificate, with hospital records used to fill in the certificate.
