She was the daughter of Carl and Louise Peterson Josephson and was Chautauqua County resident most of her life. She attended school in Cassadaga and Dunkirk and graduated from Dunkirt Business School.

She was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for the former Rounds Basket Factory in Stockton. She also assisted her husband with the daily operation of the family dairy farm in Centralia and Wake Forest, N.C.. They also operated greenhouses in Busti and Cassadaga. She was also a full-time homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church of Jamestown, former member of the Winter Activities Club in Avon Park, FL and the Eastern Stars. Hazel enjoyed oil painting, crafts, and especially sewing. She also played the chimes with the Tanglewood Bell Ringers.

Surviving is a son, Elwood Abersold of Ashville; two stepdaughters, Beverly Cox of Avon Park FL and Donna Stempien of Dunkirk and one brother Hilding Josephson of Agawam, Mass. Also surviving are six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, George F. Abersold, whom she married June 30, 1926 and died September 4, 1940; her second husband, Howard B. Brevoort whom she married July 1, 1943 and died July 28, 1997; two sons, Sheldon C. Abersold and Melvin Abersold; two great-grandchildren Spencer and Michelle Abersold; one step-granddaughter, Lou Ann Stempien and four brothers, Joseph, Waldo, Almet and Nels Jospehson.
