Philo Fassett youngest of twelve children of Jonathan Fassett and Mary Montague, removed to Bradford County, perhaps 1808. Enumerated 1810 census of Smithfield, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania (that portion that became Bradford County) as Philo Facet with one male of age sixteen and under age twenty six and one female of age twenty six and under age forty five in the household. Philo voted at the first election held in Bradford County 13 Oct 1812. Philo appears on the first assessment of Springfield Township in 1813. He perhaps resided in that portion that became Columbia Township, which had not yet been created. Philo appears on the 1813 and 1814 assessment lists of Smithfield Township. Philo Fassett first appears on the 1817 assessment list of Columbia township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania with 25 improved acres, 107 unimproved acres, 1 horse, 1 ox, 2 cows. Enumerated in Columbia Township in 1820 and 1830. Resided on a farm which he afterward sold to Reuben Wilber and known as the "Ballard Place." In 1830 they purchased the property of Sylvia Scott, widow of Ephraim Andrus, in South Creek, a half-mile south of present Fassett. Having moved there, they enlarged the house and in 1832 opened it as a hotel. Philo first appears on the 1832 assessment list of Wells (South Creek township not yet formed), which was compiled in the fall of 1831. They conducted the hotel for many years in conjunction with the manufacture of lumber and the improvement of a farm. Enumerated in Elmira, Chemung County, New York in 1850. Probate 30 Dec 1868 (Bradford County file 2097).
