Obituary

Elizabeth Dunn Fitz was born December 30, 1831 in Muskingum county, Ohio, and died on Thursday, May 29, 1913, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.M. Jones at Ogden, Iowa, at the age of 81 years, 4 mo. and 29 days. She was married to John Smyth, November 4, 1851, Muskingum county, Ohio, where they resided until the year 1861 when they moved to Iowa and located in Linn county, near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and from there to Boone county in the spring of 1868 and located on a farm near Ogden, Iowa, where they lived until the year 1896. They moved to Ogden to live [text unclear] their declining years. While living in Linn county near Cedar Rapids she became a member of the M.E. church in the Iowa City Ditrict Conference from which she received a letter, when moving to Ogden, Boone county, Iowa. She has been a faithful member of M.E. church until her death. As to her [unclear text] views she was firmly, and lived and died with a full assurance of a resurrection to an everlasting life.

She leaves to mourn four sons, three daughters, twenty-four grandchildren and one great grand child. Geo.H. of Churdan, Iowa, Robert C., Marietta, Minn.; Orvill V., Carroll, Iowa, S.A. Duglas, Scranton, Ia.; Mrs. Helphrey, Ogden, Ia.; Mrs. Gearman, Marietta, Minn.; Mrs. Jones, Ogden, Iowa; one brother and two sisters.

The funeral was held from the M.E. church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. McKay, and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, there to wait the resurrecton day.

We express our heartfelt thanks to the many friends who so kindly assisted us in our bereavement occasioned by the death of our beloved mother, also for the many beautiful floral offerings from friends and M.E. church. The Children.

Died in Iowa.

Relatives here are in receipt of a message informing them of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Smythe, widow of the late John Smythe. Her death occured at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, in Ogden, Iowa. She was 83 years of age. Several children survive her. The maiden name of the deceased was Fitz and she was born and raised near Adamsville. She has resided in Iowa for many years. Mrs. Phillip Beck of this village is a sister-in-law of the deceased.
