Esmael "Smiley" Sanchez, 70, a longtime resident of Tularosa, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Sanchez was born June 3, 1935 in Pinos Wells to Pedro and Elisa (Chavez) Sanchez. He was retired from the maintenance department with Tularosa Public Schools, and was a member of St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years Trinnie Sanchez of the family home; three sons, Elias Sanchez and his wife Martha, of Encino, Norbert Sanchez and his wife Rhonda, of Alamogordo, and Samuel Sanchez and his wife Donna, of Tularosa; a stepdaughter Rita Sanchez and her husband Billy, of Sena; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Sanchez and his wife Tracy, of Alamogordo, Matthew Sanchez, of Phoenix, Elijah Sanchez, of Albuquerque, Samuel Sanchez, Jr., of Tularosa, Samantha Sanchez, of Tularosa, Nicholus Sanchez, of Phoenix, Tanya Sanchez, of Florida, Billy Sanchez, of Nebraska, Cruzita Sanchez, of Albuquerque, Carmilita Fryar and her husband Eric, of Oklahoma, and Francisco Sanchez, of Portales; three great-grandchildren, Kendal, Aaron and Crislyn; two brothers, Eloy Sanchez, of Albuquerque, and Toby Sanchez, of Corona; and a beloved niece Alice Anaya and her husband Abel, of Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a son Robert.
The Rosary will be recited Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa by Roman Garcia. Funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. with Father John Peterson, O.F.M. as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Samantha Sanchez, Samuel Sanchez, Jeremy Sanchez, Matthew Sanchez, Elijah Sanchez and Nicholus Sanchez.
